Riding the Waves of Life
Thank you for being here and riding the waves of life with me.
April and May are a tender time for me.
My mom died in a drunk driving car accident when she was 23 years young on April 18th—just shy of her birthday on May 5th.
Why still write about this 37 years later when she’s been dead longer than she was alive?
Well, I guess I write about it still because it still affects me.
I still miss her.
I also think about other young people losing parents too young and hope I can connect with them.
Death and loss is a part of life.
Some of us experience it too early and some of us go decades before we experience it.
All of this to say, I miss my mom and the fading memories I once clung to.
All of this to say, April brought with it more self-reflection and I’ve decided I am not going to release my next book Mom Life Be Like on Wednesdays on Substack.
Every time I start to write why, it feels like I am making excuses.
One part of me is angry, feels like I’m giving up, thinks I should figure it out, make it happen, stay true to my word.
Maybe it’s living with a 3 year old who changes her mind multiple times a day that’s giving me the freedom to say, “I can’t do this right now.”
Or in her words, “I changed my mind.”
I launched two of my books Sunshine by Design & Empowered Choices: A Guide to Healing Head & Neck Pain when I was pregnant and neither of them got the attention or push they deserved.
It’s been 9 years since I self-published Take Me Away with You and I am about to experience my first ever book club with a group of phenomenal women, where I get to listen to their opinions and take aways from the book. This has been a dream of mine since I first published.
This is a full circle moment—something to pause and celebrate.
Old me wants to push myself, don’t be lazy, make it happen, release the book now.
New me knows my mental health will suffer, my family will suffer, and those are non negotiable’s for me.
For May, in honor of Mental Health Awareness month I will be writing shorter posts about mental health.
If you were looking forward to reading the book Mom Life Be Like… will you email me back or comment below.
I’d love to know who these posts are reaching.
Thank you for being here and riding the waves of life with me.
