Turning Dreams Into Daily Action

For years I told myself I didn’t know how to make soup. Now I make it all the time.

My daughter currently has permanent marker on her lip, a birthday hat on and is humming to herself as she digs around in the art drawer.

My son is having a battle in the living room with a Pokémon or some other thing and surely he is winning.

All of this after they helped me cut up vegetables and make minestrone soup.

For years I told myself I didn’t know how to make soup. Now I make it all the time.

The only thing standing between the dream version of yourself and your current version are steps that get you closer to the dream version.

If you love something make time for it.

If you love writing and fantasize of doing it, pick up a pen and write something, anything. Make up a short story about a fictional character who moves away from their home town to find themselves. Or write a poem. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to be good. Just do it cause you want to do it.

If you want to make soup, stop thinking about how you can’t do it and instead find a recipe. Then follow the recipe and trust me I know how hard this part is, but it can be done and it will get easier and then you can make soup with no recipes. It happens one day at a time.

I am proof. This is from last nights dinner 😋

I also used to dream of being an author and now I have 3 self published books. Check them out here at GetWellWithDanielle.com/books

Am I a famous author?
No

Am I a world class chef?
No

Does it bring me joy to write and create stories?

A million times yes

Is it satisfying to know I can make soup and I don’t have to be hard on myself because I really want to know how, but don’t?

Yes, yes it is very satisfying.

Go After Your Dreams

Every time I make a soup I am reminded of 30 year old me wishing she was better, wishing she was further along, wishing she knew how to cook soup, had some books published, had a family, had something to show for herself.

Now I have so much compassion for that 30 year old. She dreamed of living near the ocean and starting over and then she did it. She moved to Capitola, CA where she knew nobody and she rebuilt her business from scratch. She made new friends. She wrote everyday. She swam in the ocean everyday. She kept taking baby steps into the unknown and I have her to thank for the peace I feel now.

So wherever you are on your journey be kind to yourself, current and past versions too. We’re always doing the best we can with the tools and perspective we have. One day and one step at a time that’s all any of us can control.

Here is one of the first soups I made with my little brother from this amazing book The Healthy Mind Cookbook. And a photo from when I worked at the JCC in Los Gatos as a Yoga Lead, Yoga Teacher, & Personal Trainer.

Love Always,

Danielle Mallett
