Pelvic Floor Massage
The Pelvic Floor & It’s 3 Layers
The other day I was working out with one of my closest friends. We were moving our bodies doing some of these new joint mobilizations I’ve been experimenting with lately and her hip flexor was acting up.
This took me on a tangent about the pelvic floor. I started telling her about the three layers of the pelvic floor and how to go into the vagina daily with a finger. I told her what Jenny Putt PT told me which is to think of it like flossing your teeth, it has to be done.
To which my friend said “oh god touch my vagina everyday.”
Later that night I got to thinking.
Why is it so difficult for women to have a daily connection to their vagina?
Granted we are far more complex and doing trigger point massage in your vagina might sound like work, but just like flossing our teeth, it needs to be done.
If you’re really feeling good and have the time you can even add in some clitoris stimulation, but I am derailing.
Pelvic Floor Therapy
If you are a mom give yourself the gift of seeing a pelvic floor therapist.
If you’re in the Monterey and Santa Cruz area check out
Jenny Putt PT. She offers online support as well and she is amazing!
If you are a C-section mom this is still so very important! Your pelvic floor muscles and organs shifted around to have your baby or babies and had to readjust postpartum. You can have some kind of pelvic floor instability that throws off your hips, low back, you name it.
If you can’t afford to see a good therapist I recommend going in there yourself and applying a small amount of pressure to the vaginal walls and start exploring.
If you have tension breathe into it and relax.
If you feel nothing, hang out there for a few breaths and return to that area until feeling returns.
Let’s normalize women caring for their vagina, vulva, clitoris, uterus, pelvic floor muscles, all of it, because this part of a woman’s body literally brings life into this world and deserves a lot more care.
Happy Holidays.
Love Always,
Danielle Mallett.
