New year New accountability
I have ADD so it’s difficult for me to focus and choose one thing. This accountability group starts with 5-10 push ups a day. Against a wall, on a couch, on a bench, a counter, or on the floor on your knees, or full push ups.
If you really hate push ups and won’t do this. Then start with squats or a wall sit.
If you’d rather focus on your core then start with modified or full plank holds for 30 seconds.
If you are being cruel to yourself then do this meditation to cultivate more love and kindness towards yourself and others.
If your body is complaining and your mind is all over the place refusing to focus on one thing, then rotate between these and do the one that works best for you on that day.
If you miss a day or two, it’s ok. Everyday is a chance to start again. We will be here cheering you on.
What’s it all about on Substack?
I tried something new this morning. In the middle of making both kids breakfast, coffee, getting snack ready for school, and setting up some morning TV the amount of requests from each child started to overwhelm me. I wanted to yell, “give me a second!”
I steadily paused and said, “mommy is doing the best I can and I’m starting to feel overwhelmed. Give me a second.”
My son shrugged and said, “ok”
Then everything felt calm and I didn’t feel guilt for screaming.
This is a first for me and I think it’s important to start celebrating when we do something new that we feel good about.
When I walked my son to school I noticed parents playing with their kids. Extra hugs goodbye. One dad was spinning his son in circles, a mom was playing, chasing her daughter to class. There was joy everywhere. I would have missed it all if I still felt overwhelmed and guilty about how the morning went.
Be kind to yourself and others.
It’s the best tools we have to combat absurd levels of violence and hatred.
