Marketing My Books Feels Hard — And I’m Trying Anyways

Today I listened to this episode from We Can Do Hard Things and it normalized how I feel when I finish a book.

I tend to skip the putting the book out there part and rejoice that it’s done. When it's done that means I can start a new creative project, which is m favorite part.

However, I would like to continue being a writer and sustain a career as an Author so this time I’m putting myself out there more. Even if it gives me the nauseous vomiting feelings. Here's the episode if you want to give it a listen.

How to Stay Human with Suleika Jaouad

Wouldn’t it be magical if somehow Glennon read one of my books and I got to talk on the We Can do Hard Things Podcast?

That’s a lofty dream of mine.

Maybe that’s one of the reasons I listen to every one of their episodes. Some part of me feels a part of their community already. I have a sense of belonging with these people who might never know who I am.

When I listen it’s as though I’m in conversation with close friends, even though I’m only listening.

Anyways, this episode made me feel better about why I don’t market and push my books into the world.

It also reminded me I do want my books out there. Art is a strange endeavor. The joy is in the creation. Some things we create for ourselves, some we create to share.

The ones we create to share deserve a magical force that carries them to the hearts of those who will enjoy it.

I wish this for all art.

So who knows, maybe something magical will happen this time with my fourth self-published book. Maybe it won’t.

Either way I’ll enjoy the process, learn from it, continue writing, and publishing books.

Love always,

Danielle Mallett
