Do You Have Dreams of Being a Writer?

This post is for you if you dream of being a writer.

The only thing between that dream and reality, is writing!
That’s it.

If you want to be a writer, you must write.
Everyday if possible or once a week, whatever works for you.
You can’t be a writer, if you don’t write.

It’s that simple.

Are there endless voices out there writing?
Yes
Does that mean your voice doesn’t matter or need to be heard?
No
If you have a dream, you owe it to yourself and that dream to move toward it.

Now if you want to be a published author. That’s different story.
That takes different steps.
All steps that are within your reach, but different.

I say,

“Start with the writing.”

The writing and creating is the fun part.

The part where you get to create a new world, a new poem, a new idea for a self-help novel, or fantasy short story.
The possibilities are endless.

What matters is that you are enjoying what you are writing.

I say this as someone who forced myself to write when it wasn’t fun.
When I put unnecessary pressure on myself.
I love being here on substack because I get a place to write short letters from me to you.

No fuss.
No over editing.
No time to build a new world.
Just words flying onto a page at 6:40 in the morning, today anyway.

If you feel stuck start with dialogue.
Dialogue is an enjoyable way to move a story forward, fast.
A lot can happen in a conversation.

If the idea of writing dialogue sounds hard, start listening more.

Listen to the way people talk.
Pay attention to when they pause.
What do you feel?
Are they saying everything?
What’s being held back?
I used to spend a lot of time in cafes ease dropping it’s a great place and one of my favorite ways to pass times.
I miss that!

Add in tension between the characters talking and a conflict they aren’t talking about..

They don’t say what the problem is, but they do argue about dishes, a jacket on the floor, or something like that.

Try it out!
Share it with me.
I’d love to read it so you already have one reader eager to see what you and your creativity come up with.

Love Always,

Danielle Mallett
