Dear Caregivers, You Deserve Care Too
This one is for the caregivers.
You are the ones who give endlessly and feel it’s never enough and there’s always more to give.
Maybe you have children, a partner, a sick family member, aging parents, or your profession of choice is a caregiving role.
Maybe you’re a caregiver to family and your job is to care for others.
If this is you then I want to say how ridiculous it sounds when people say to fill your own cup first.
You’re a caregiver! You’re used to putting your needs on the back burner to give to others. That’s what comes naturally to you.
It feels selfish to care for yourself, to carve time away from caring for others.
It feels selfish, but we have already established you care deeply for others so that can't be true.
It is self-care and it is something else you have to do, but here’s the good news, you’re already an incredible caregiver and if you can turn a little bit of that love toward yourself you will feel so much better.
If and when you decide you need to care more for yourself it might feel impossible, so remember you are a caregiver and you deserve care too.
Start simple and realistic.
Does carving out 5-15 minutes a day moving your body sound hard?
If so, start there.
If it sounds easy, commit to more time with your body.
I have been loving The Beach Body app for inspiration to move my body. Even though I am a personal trainer and I know what to do, it feels good to have someone tell me what to do. It takes away an added layer of work for me.
If you'd like a free resource check out Yoga with Adrienne or Blogilates
These are two great places to start. If you need more accountability, hire a personal trainer or start the free programs with a friend and keep each other accountable. You deserve it!
Before you go, choose one thing you can do this week to turn some of your love and care toward yourself. If you want to share it below in the comments I'd love to hear what you choose.
Love always,
