It’s Not Okay—And It’s Happening Every Day

It’s not okay.

It’s never okay.

And yet it happens everyday.

Isn’t this why we go numb?

Isn’t this why we give up?

It’s not okay

It’s never okay

And yet we all have to survive

We’re all taught to value our independence

To get more

To be great

To have more

To seek privilege always

To protect our own

Some people live with injustice everyday

They see death everyday

See heartbreak everyday

Feel unsafe

every

day

Some people see it streamed onto their phones

Feel it’s happening to them

Take it personal

Take it into their heart

Are outraged by injustice

Are disgusted by the reality other people are living with

every

day

They step out and go to protests

They read books to educate themselves

They post on social media flooding their feed hoping others will see it and be just as outraged

They learn it’s more complicated

It’s all more complex

The religious wars

The violence

The undocumented

The hate crimes

The insidiousness brain washing of white supremacy

And yet our humanness knows

It’s not okay to separate families

It’s never okay to rip babies from their mothers

It’s not okay to put people in isolation camps

It’s never okay to treat humans like animals

And yet it’s happening

every

day

Somewhere in this world

It’s not okay to take away a woman’s right to her body autonomy and yet it happens

every

day

So we go numb

We freeze

We medicate

We give up

Or

We fight

We protest

We educate

We organize

And we pray

Oh god do we pray for a better future for our babies.
