Speaking Out for Justice in Monterey

Today I did my first podcast episode with my friend live on Substack. You can see it here.

Kind, Tired, and Taking Up Space

It’s now 6:45pm and I feel my insides trembling with fear. Not because of the podcast, because I read an update on this man who was taken into ICE from our community in Pacific Grove, California in the Monterey Peninsula.

The update that was posted is horrific. If that is in fact what is happening there has to be more that we can do besides writing to senators and sharing links with people.

It is sickening to think of how these people are being treated and this is just the beginning.

I don’t want to look away, want to honor the families torn apart and the people being held unlawfully.

Yet looking too closely is crushing.

I know I am resilient and maybe some of the resilience I got from growing up with drug addicts has prepared me for this moment.

Maybe there's a reason I'm finding my voice now in my early 40's.

Maybe I didn't know how to stand up to injustice before, but now I know my silence makes it feel okay and writing about it at the very least honors these families in our communities who are being torn apart.

If you're in the Monterey Area and want to donate to JC's go Fund me to support his family while he is gone and to help with legal fees, it is here.

Bring JC Home

Love always,

Danielle Mallett
