I Hope You Make It
It’s too easy to move through our lives in a hurry. To busy ourselves with endless to-do lists.
I’m here this week to encourage you to write. Wait don’t go anywhere! I have a fun exercise for you that will help you slow down a little and connect to your heart and creativity.
At the top of a page or in your notes app write down—I hope you make it!
Or skip to the end of my poem and use the last line to start writing from there. Or honestly use any line that stands out to you.
That’s the thing about creativity, you can start anywhere. There is no wrong way to do it. Words come together in their own way, just step back and let them.
I hope you make it…..
Not just today,
Not just through the dishes,
Not just to the end of the week,
Not just through another overstimulated, exhausting day.
I hope you make it to the end of this poem.
At the end of this poem is something
Something I don’t even know yet.
Hope is something I have been clinging to lately.
Hope for better.
Hope for kindness.
Hope for consequences.
Hope for change.
Hope for community.
Hope to remain a light in a world that feels dark.
Hope to see the light.
Art and writing have been a safe place for me for decades now.
And yet, I don’t prioritize it.
So here I am,
Writing this,
Knowing someone will read it
And it will be imperfect,
It will be unedited
But still I will
Make it—
To make
To construct
To form
To create
Isn’t that what we are all doing everyday with our days?
Constructing ways to navigate chaos and peace.
Making our way from one task, one event, one place to the next.
Moving our bodies around, hopefully with presence, with breath, with moments of pause.
I hope you do more than make it.
I hope you thrive.
I hope you see the destruction and let the rage of injustice light you up in your way.
I hope you are fierce and peaceful with the ways you show up with your body.
I hope you are gentle and pause when you are already carrying more than enough weight.
We don’t need to carry more weight,
What can we all put down?
Here is the poet who inspired today’s post.
I hope you do art for arts sake 💜
